Greetings World!! Staring today I will be structuring my blog slightly different! Each day will be dedicated to a specific topic. So from hence fourth today will forever be Trending Tuesdays’. On this day I will post topics about things that are currently trending. So in keeping with the new structure of this blog, todays Trending Tuesday topic is Destroyed Denim. Before we delve into the Distress trend, we must first look at the overall history of “The Blue Jean”. In fashion (& throughout out history) the word Blue Jean (like Thomas Edisons’ invention of the lightbulb), is synonymous with its creator, Levi Strauss. Leob Strauss, (who later changed his first name to Levi Strauss), was a pedlar who had immigrated to North America from Bavaria, followed the Gold Rush in California in the 1850s to sell his goods. The miners asked him for sturdy and durable work pants. With the help of a tailor, Strauss put together work pants that were supposedly made out of the canvas he had brought with him for the assembly of tents. In the 1860s, he began to fabricate pants made from heavyweight denim, and because the pants were dyed with indigo they were named “blue jeans” (retrieved from, http://www.fashionintime.org/history-jeans/). The distressed look however didn’t come about until the late eighties during the hard rock/heavy metal era and in the 1990s and 2000s during the grunge era, being worn by grunge artists. Worn and ripped jeans still remain popular, and are commonly referred to as “distressed”. Although this trend has evolved over the years, I think it’s safe to say that this trend is here to stay & will never go out of style. What are your thoughts, are you here for this evolving trend?
